Emergency Response: What to Do in a Chemical Exposure
CRITICAL: DO NOT CLOSE OR RUB YOUR EYES!
- Shout for Help: Alert nearby colleagues or students immediately.
- Activate Equipment: Push the lever, pull the tray, or twist the bottle cap immediately.
- Flush Immediately: Hold eyelids open with thumb and index finger. Roll eyes continuously.
- Remove Contact Lenses: Take out contact lenses while flushing.
- Flush Time:
- Plumbed / Gravity-Fed: Flush continuously for at least 15 minutes.
- Personal Bottles: Squeeze into eyes continuously while walking to a primary 15-minute station.
- Seek Medical Care & SDS: Call Public Safety (541) 463-5555. Bring the chemical Safety Data Sheet (SDS) to the medical provider.
- Don't forget to report the accident promptly.

How to Conduct & Log Weekly Testing (Plumbed Units)
- Access: Ensure the path and area surrounding the station are clear of obstructions.
- Containment: Place a shield or 5-gallon bucket under the unit if no floor drain is present.
- Activate: Push the handle fully. Dust covers should pop off automatically.
- Check Flow & Temp: Verify an even, gentle stream from both nozzles at tepid water temperature (15-38°C / 60-100°F).
- Drainage: Allow water to run for a few minutes to flush sediment and ensure the drain clears.
- Sign Off: Date and initial the physical inspection tag hanging at the station.
Reporting Issues
