The LCC Safety Committee
Mission Statement: To assist in monitoring, improving, and maintaining job site safety and occupational health as mandated by OSHA regulations.
Purpose & Authority
The Safety Committee brings employees and managers together to achieve a healthy workplace. Acting in an advisory capacity, the committee evaluates safety training, investigates incidents to recommend corrective actions, and reviews quarterly building inspections.
Meetings
- When: The third Wednesday of every month, 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM.
- Where: Locations are announced monthly in the Lane Events Calendar.

Committee Membership & Structure
To ensure balanced representation across the district, the committee is composed of 3 groups; Employee-Elected, Employer-Selected, and Observers or Technical Advisors. The Employee-Elected group is composed of members appointed by the LCCEA for Faculty, appointed by the LCCEF for Classified Employees, appointed by the Management Employee Group, and other volunteers from these employment groups. The Employer-Selected group are those appointed by LCC Executive Leadership, and members of the Risk Management team.
Committee Responsibilities & Training
Every member is trained to ensure LCC remains audit-ready. Training includes:
- Hazard Identification: Techniques for spotting physical and systemic risks.
- Accident Investigation: Principles for non-adversarial, root-cause analysis.
- OR-OSHA Standards: Mastery of OAR 437-40-030 through 437-40-055.
Reporting & Transparency
In accordance with Oregon Law, all agendas and minutes are maintained for a minimum of three (3) years for inspection by Oregon OSHA. Minutes are posted digitally at this link.
Safety Tips & Proactive Resources
Summer & High-Heat Safety
LCC is committed to protecting workers from heat stress. When temperatures rise:
- Hydrate: Drink water consistently throughout your shift.
- Take Breaks: Utilize cool zones and take additional recovery breaks as needed.
- Relocate: If indoor temperatures reach extreme levels, coordinate with your supervisor to move to a climate-controlled area.
- Resources: Review the OSHA Work Safely in High Heat Guide and the COPPS Heat Illness Prevention Plan.
