Accessibility Details

A screen reader user interacting with the Gemini chat interface may encounter significant structural and navigational challenges due to out-of-order headings and conversational elements not properly marked up as lists, leading to disorientation. Key interactive controls, including the prompt input field and related buttons, suffer from missing programmatic labels and functions that are inaccessible using a keyboard alone. Additionally, there are concerns regarding visual contrast, where text and interactive elements may lack sufficient contrast against the background, and problems with keyboard focus visibility, making it difficult for keyboard-only users to track which element they are currently interacting with within the complex chat application interface.

Tool Description

Gemini is Google's AI platform that works as a powerful conversational tool, available at no cost for all college students, faculty, and staff. Built on a large language model (LLM), it can easily understand complex questions and instructions given in plain language. It processes information from multiple sources, including text, code, and images, to generate instant, context-aware, and diverse responses.

Common uses for Gemini include summarizing extensive articles or documents, generating initial drafts of emails or reports, transforming data into structured formats like tables, and assisting with brainstorming or problem-solving by providing multiple perspectives and creative suggestions.
