Employee Wellness Winter 2023

Take time to care for your most valuable resource, your health. LIFE (Lasting Improvements for Employees) events are open to all Lane employees, their spouses/domestic partners and their dependents (16 years or older), along with retirees. FUNctional Intervals - on Zoom
Try out this full-body circuit-based workout with varying Intervals of intensity. You’re in control of the intensity. It’s dynamic. It’s functional. It’s a workout for everyone. (Free)

Super Circuits Variety Pack – in Building 5, Room 134 and on Zoom
Join these fun and energizing workouts. No matter what your current fitness level is, you’ll improve your aerobic capacity and strength while training using your own body weight, or home equipment, with encouraging coworkers. We’ll do circuit training and group workouts for your endurance and strength building pleasure. This class is for Lane employees and their family members. (Free)

Stretch & Release – in Building 30, Room 135 and on Zoom
Feel better with a 40-minute stretch and myofascial release (self-massage) break to improve your flexibility and range of motion. We’ll use a variety of techniques and a ball (e.g. tennis or racquet) to soothe tight muscles and fascia, while increasing blood flow and circulation. (Free)

Fit Foundations - in Building 30, Room 135
Have fun in a safe and supportive environment while improving your stamina, balance, flexibility, posture and strength. These classes are designed for all fitness levels, ages and sizes. We’ll do cardio, strength, stretching and myofascial release (i.e. self-massage) exercises to help you with your daily activities and recreational pursuits. This class is for Lane employees and their family members. (Free)

KANIKAPILA: Conversations in Hawaiian Mele – in Building 1, Room 206 or on Zoom
Kanikapila is a social activity where people come together to play and enjoy music. Kanikapila happens everywhere in Hawaiʻi--backyard bbqʻs, celebrations, as well as formal and informal gatherings. Where there are people, there is music! In Hawaiʻi, itʻs a wonderful way for family, friends, and communities to connect and create a sense of belonging through the familiar sounds of music heard through generations. We welcome and invite you to come join us to meet new friends and immerse yourself in the culture of Hawaiʻi through some popular favorite and beloved classic melodies. We’ll talk about the enduring stories behind the songs and learn Hawaiian language by singing and playing some selections in ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi. Have never played ʻukulele before? No worries! This friendly gathering will give you the basics and fundamentals to get you started and continue to build your own repertoire with the group. We have a few loaner ʻukulele or you are welcome to bring your own.

Fitness Education Center - Employee Option
Come get rejuvated in our state-of-the-art fitness center, open to all employees for $45 (transportation fee waived) for the term. Professional staff are on duty to help you with your exercise programming. Drop in any time during the open hours:

Monday - Thursday 8am - 5pm and Fridays 9am - 1pm. The center will be closed during campus Holidays & In-service Days. You must follow all current COVID-19 Safety Procedures at https://www.lanecc.edu/covid19 for Lane.

Healthy Habit Sustainers – 1/10, 1/24, 2/7, 2/21, 3/7, 3/21, on Zoom
Whether you are trying to save money, clear clutter, eat more vegetables, get more physically active, or start a new healthy habit of any kind, making changes are easier with support and accountability. Small changes can positively impact your self-esteem, energy level and overall health. Sharing your thoughts, challenges and successes are encouraged and not required. We meet every other week. This class is for Lane employees and their family members. (Free)

Caregiver Support Group - Tuesdays, 1/17, 2/7, 3/7, 12:00 - 1:00pm, on Zoom
Are you taking care of your parents or your in-laws? Do you have care giving needs? Do you know about assisted living facilities? If you have these questions and more, this is the group for you. Come share your stories, learn about valuable resources and get support. This class is for Lane employees and their family members. Facilitated by Wendy Simmons (Free).

Energize & Thrive Wellness Challenge - Create Your Own Goal & Win an Incentive, 1/23 - 3/5
Set the wellness goal of your choice and get support on your journey by joining this six-week Challenge. Choose any goal to improve your mental, emotional and/or physical health. If you for meet 75% of your goal, you’ll receive an incentive of your choice, a walking/running fanny pack or zip-up hoodie, both with our Wellness logo. You'll also get support through our Energize & Thrive Wellness slack (pun intended) channel and in zoom meetups. Instructor will be Wendy Simmons. (Free)

Wellness Activity (e.g. Walk or Jog) Release Time – Classified Staff please sign up if you aren’t in a Wellness Class or using the Fitness Education Center
Relieve stress, socialize with coworkers, improve your stamina and be counted for your Wellness Release time. Classified staff get up to one hour of release time each week for wellness activities such as walking, jogging or badminton. You’ll also get weekly self-care wellness tips through our Moodle platform. (Free).
