Lane Community College provides eligible classified employees with a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, paid leave, retirement benefits, and additional voluntary benefits.

Need To Change Your Benefits?
Certain qualifying life events may allow you to make changes to your insurance elections outside of the annual open enrollment period. Examples include marriage or divorce, birth or adoption, death of a dependent, or loss of other group coverage.
Contact Human Resources within 31 days of the qualifying event for information about available changes and required documentation.
Health Insurance
Classified employees can choose from a variety of medical, dental, and vision plan options available through the Oregon Educators Benefit Board (OEBB).

Medical coverage is available through a selection of plans offered by Moda Health and Kaiser Permanente.

Health Insurance Opt-Out Stipend
Employees who have other qualifying group health coverage may choose to opt out of the College's medical, dental, and vision plans.
Eligible employees who opt out receive a $100 stipend each pay period. Proof of other group coverage is required.
Coverage through the Individual Marketplace Exchange, Oregon Health Plan/Medicaid, or student health insurance does not qualify for the opt-out stipend.
Life & Disability Insurance
Life and accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance is provided through The Standard and administered by OEBB.
Basic Life Insurance
Basic life insurance provides classified employees with $100,000 in protection. Coverage is provided automatically, with the College paying 100% of the premium.
Portability and conversion options may be available when eligibility for coverage ends. Portability is available to employees who are under age 65 when coverage ends, regardless of the reason coverage is ending, and who have been enrolled in the benefit for at least 12 months. Conversion is available to employees who do not meet the requirements for portability. Applications for either portability or conversion must be submitted within 31 days of the coverage end date. Refer to The Standard's plan information for eligibility requirements and additional details.
Voluntary Life Insurance
Additional life insurance coverage is available for employees who would like added financial protection for themselves and their families. Voluntary coverage is employee-paid through post-tax payroll deductions.
Who can be covered?
Employee, spouse/domestic partner, and eligible dependent children.
When can I enroll?
New employees have 31 days from their date of hire to enroll. Additional opportunities are available during open enrollment or with evidence of insurability, as applicable.
Guarantee Issue Amounts
Coverage up to certain guarantee issue amounts may be available during the initial enrollment period without answering health-related questions.
- Employee - up to $200,000 in $10,000 increments
- Spouse/Domestic Partner - up to $30,000 in $10,000 increments

During the annual open enrollment period, employees with existing coverage may increase their employee coverage by up to $20,000 per year, up to the guarantee issue amount, without answering health-related questions. Coverage may also be decreased during open enrollment. First-time enrollment outside of the initial eligibility period or coverage above the guarantee issue amount requires completion of a health-related questionnaire, which is provided by the insurance carrier at the time of application.
Cost
Premiums are based on age and tobacco status and change in five-year age bands.

Voluntary Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance
Additional Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) coverage is available for employees who would like added financial protection for themselves and their families. Enrollment is voluntary, and premiums are paid entirely by the employee through post-tax payroll deductions.

Coverage Options
- Employee and spouse/domestic partner - coverage in $10,000 increments, up to a maximum benefit of $500,000
- Dependent children - coverage in $2,000 increments, up to a maximum benefit of $10,000
During the annual open enrollment period, employees may add, increase, or decrease voluntary AD&D coverage. Health-related questions are not required for the AD&D benefit.
Cost
Voluntary AD&D premiums are based on a flat rate per $10,000 of coverage.

When Coverage Ends
Portability and conversion options are available when eligibility for coverage ends. Portability is available to employees who are under age 65 when coverage ends, regardless of the reason coverage is ending, and who have been enrolled in the benefit for at least 12 months. Portability is not an option for the employee's insured spouse/domestic partner and/or insured dependent children. For those not eligible for portability, conversion is an option. Application for portability or conversion must be made within 31 days of the coverage end date. Refer to The Standard's plan information for eligibility requirements and additional details.
Short Term Disability
Short-term disability (STD) coverage is provided to employees through The Standard's STD Plan 29. Enrollment is mandatory and the College pays 100% of the premium.
With an approved disability claim, the plan provides a benefit equal to 66.67% of eligible weekly salary, up to a maximum weekly benefit of $1,500, following a 7 calendar day benefit waiting period. Benefits may continue for up to 90 calendar days.
Continuation of coverage post-employment is not available and eligibility for this benefit ends on the last day of work in the eligible position.
Long Term Disability
Long-term disability (LTD) coverage is provided to classified employees through The Standard's LTD Plan 18. Enrollment is mandatory and the premium is paid entirely by the employee through post-tax payroll deduction.
With an approved disability claim, the plan provides a benefit equal to 66.67% of eligible monthly salary, up to a maximum monthly benefit of $8,000, following a 90 calendar day benefit waiting period.
Long-term disability premiums are calculated as a percentage of earnings. To determine the per paycheck deduction, multiply the gross earnings by 0.00302.
Conversion of LTD coverage may be available to employees who are medically able to work and are not separating from employment due to retirement. An application for conversion must be submitted within 31 days of the coverage end date. Refer to The Standard's plan information for eligibility requirements and conversion options.
Paid Leave
Classified employees receive several forms of College-provided paid leave. Accruals and eligibility are prorated based on FTE.
Paid Leave at a Glance
Sick Leave
12 hours per month, prorated based on FTE
Vacation Leave
7.5 hours per month with less than 5 years of continuous service
15 hours per month with 5 or more years of continuous service
Accruals are prorated based on FTE
Personal Leave
24 hours per calendar year, prorated based on FTE
College Closure Days
80 hours per year, prorated based on annual FTE
Emergency Leave
Up to 5 paid days per qualifying occurrence
Sick Leave
Employees accrue 12 hours per month (6 hours per paycheck), prorated based on FTE, with no maximum balance.
Unused sick leave is not paid out at separation. Eligible unused sick leave may, however, be reported to PERS for purposes of calculating retirement benefits.
Unused sick leave from prior eligible PERS employment may also be transferable to Lane.
Vacation Leave
Vacation accrual is based on continuous service with the College and is prorated based on FTE:
- Less than 5 years of continuous service: 7.5 hours per month
- 5 or more years of continuous service: 15 hours per month
A maximum of 240 hours may be carried forward from one calendar year to the next. Upon separation, eligible unused vacation leave is paid out up to a maximum of 240 hours at the employee's wage rate at the time of separation.
Personal Leave
Employees receive 24 hours of personal leave each calendar year, regardless of FTE.
Personal leave is granted at the beginning of each calendar year and must be used within that calendar year. Unused personal leave does not carry forward.
College Closure Days
Employees receive 80 hours of College Closure leave each year, prorated based on annual FTE.
College Closure leave is used during designated College Closure Days, typically the ten Fridays during summer term when the College is closed. Specific closure days are established each year based on the academic calendar.
Unused College Closure leave is not paid out upon separation.
Emergency Leave
In the event of a qualifying critical illness, accident, or death of an immediate family member, employees may receive up to five days of paid emergency leave per occurrence. Up to five additional half-days may be approved upon written request.
Use of emergency leave requires approval from Human Resources. Please contact your benefits analyst to request approval.
Refer to the Classified Contract for the definition of an immediate family member.
Tuition Waiver
Classified employees are eligible for unlimited tuition waivers in accordance with the Tuition and Fee Waivers Procedure and Classified Contract. This benefit is also available to their eligible dependents.
Employees may enroll in classes that do not conflict with their regular work responsibilities.
