CTL Community Breakfast

Center for Teaching and Learning

One table. One Lane.

Friday, October 9, 2026

8–10 a.m. · Center Building, room 303

Third floor, across from Testing Services

Drop in when you can and stay as long as you like. Bring a dish to share if you’re inclined, or simply bring yourself.

Join the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) for an informal community breakfast. Faculty, staff, managers, and students are all welcome to connect, get to know the people and work across campus, and talk about teaching and learning.

Student success and retention start with each of us

What can YOU do to support students as they work toward their goals and success (retention)?

Every role at Lane can help students feel connected, supported, and able to keep moving toward their goals. Bring one action, experience, or idea to the CTL breakfast—or share it through our anonymous, one-question form.

Share your ideas!

The form is anonymous. We do not collect names or email addresses. Please avoid identifying details about yourself or students.

All ideas shared at the CTL breakfast and through this form will be collected and shared at lanecc.edu/ctl so we can learn from each other. What you share may give someone else an idea, and their ideas may in turn motivate you. This is how we strengthen a culture of curiosity, openness, and sharing.

Let’s build on the work of Retention via Relationships (RvR), Gina Szabady and Cathy Thomas’s project recognized with a 2024–25 Innovation of the Year award, and the experiences each of us brings.

Everyone has a place at the table. Share a tip, bring a question, or simply listen.

At the table

  • Pancakes with Shelley and Kevin: Shelley Tinkham and Kevin Steeves are at the griddle, with support from the VPAA Office. Enjoy breakfast favorites, coffee, and tea.
  • A dish to share, if inclined: Bring a family favorite, a food with a story, or something you enjoy. Homemade or store-bought is welcome; food is entirely optional.
  • Bring a mug: We have only a few to share. A reusable plate is welcome, too; take it home afterward.
  • Bring a colleague or student: Meet someone new and help reopen the CTL for the 2026–27 academic year.

A little breakfast. A little connection.

Get to know colleagues and campus areas, share your work, and build connections that support our students.

Help make breakfast a regular tradition

Divisions, departments, and programs: host a breakfast in November, December, January, or beyond. Introduce your people and how your work supports teaching, learning, and the student experience.

  • Your team: Welcomes guests, shares a little about your area, and brings food. No presentation or agenda needed.
  • The CTL: Provides space, coffee, and tea. Prefer to meet in your area? Let’s talk.
  • Everyone: Is welcome, with a dish and story if inclined or just themselves.

Host a future breakfast

Share an idea through the form; we’ll confirm dates and arrangements together.
