The College recognizes that the student government (Lane Student Government Association) and student participation in governance and leadership are a vital part of the campus community. It is the purpose of Lane SGA to advocate for, and help with lobbying, on a variety of student topics and needs as they arise on the main LCC campus and within the State of Oregon. This policy distinguishes student government from College administration, and defines the policies and procedures to which student government must conform.
The college recognizes that that the Lane Student Government Association (Lane SGA) functions as both the representative organization of credit bearing students at the main campus, and provides an educational leadership experience for students elected to office or hired as Lane SGA Student Government staff. It shall be subject to conformance with board policies and administrative policies and procedures, and shall be a reflection of state and local government for the purpose of the educational experiences it provides.
The College recognizes that all students taking classes on the main campus and paying the student activity fee are members of the Lane Student Government Association, or Lane SGA. From this body the Lane Student Government Association or Lane SGA can be formed by election to be a representative body of students and to be a point contact between Lane Community College administration, governance system, the Board of Education, and the students-at-large.
