This procedure describes for instructors the steps to be taken when developing new courses or making major course revisions.
It is the policy of Academic and Student Affairs that Lane Community College will develop an outcomes-based curriculum. Course objectives and assessment methods will be developed for each course and will be an integral part of the course outline. All faculty teaching the course will use the approved Course Outline, and will print the approved course description and objectives on the course syllabus. When requested by the developer, the curriculum specialist will provide assistance in writing outcomes-based course objectives.
The following procedures will be followed in developing course outlines.
- All course outlines for new courses or major course revisions will be prepared in accordance with the format as shown in the Course Outline Format.
- The titles of texts and references will not be listed on the course outlines. Texts and references currently used in a course by each instructor will be included on the course information sheets filed with the course outlines. (See Course Syllabus Information). For the curriculum process, suggested texts and references may be attached as an addendum to the course outlines.
- An acceptable course outline is shown in the Course Outline Sample.
