This procedure defines the criteria for in-district eligibility to attend Lane Community College, and the process for appeal.
A student is an in-district student if at least one of the following conditions is met:
- The student is age 18 or a high school graduate and a resident of the college district at least 90 days prior to registration.
- The student is a veteran who has established legal residence inside the college district within one year of separation or discharge from the service.
- The student is a dependent of parents who establish residence within the college district.
A student who establishes the 90-day residency requirements during a term will be granted in-district status the following term. Exceptions will not be made to award residency retroactively.
Students will need to initiate this process by filling out the Request for Residency Change form, available from Enrollment Services. Any student who receives scholarship funds from another state, contingent upon being a resident of that state, cannot claim Oregon or district residency for tuition purposes. There is no residency requirement for Continuing Education.
There are three residency categories in addition to in-district:
- Out-of-district but within the state
- Out-of-state but a citizen of the United States
- International student (not a citizen of the United States)
Students shall be informed that proof of residency may be required. Acceptable proof consists of the following: Oregon driver's license, utility bills, active savings or checking account, employee payroll records, DD214, social agency records, or Lane County (or other in-district) tax report. There are no waivers for residency requirements. (In-state residency for tuition purposes only is granted to Idaho, Washington, California, and Nevada students.)
The residency requirement or advantage for limited enrollment programs and programs requiring selection must be met prior to any published application deadlines.
The residency requirement applies to readmission of students who have left the state since their last enrollment at the college.
All appeals for issues regarding the college's residency requirement will be submitted in writing to the Dean, Enrollment Management Systems.
