Commission reports explain what CAI has examined, what it recommends, and how its work connects to student success. Recommendations are advisory; institutional decisions follow Lane’s established governance and administrative processes.
2025–26 annual report
The commission’s inaugural annual report to the President summarizes its first year, the five workgroups, and priorities for 2026–27. It includes the July 2026 membership roster and a map linking workgroups to the AI Task Force recommendations.

First-year progress
- Academic integrity guidance: CAI’s Governance, Policy, and Security workgroup partnered with the Fusion Lab to develop and jointly publish Academic Integrity and AI Detection Guidance, shared with faculty in May 2026 alongside course AI policy and syllabus template guidance. The syllabus resource is part of the Fusion Lab AI Toolkit and is maintained by ATC Instructional Design.
- Employee AI use policy: The commission approved a recommendation on May 11, 2026. The annual report records a first College Council read on June 10.
- AI literacy: The AI Literacy, Professional Development, and Culture workgroup identified the Digital Education Council’s AI literacy definition and framework as a candidate for adoption at Lane. Work continues on an information literacy learning outcome that includes AI literacy; the framework remains under consideration.
Looking ahead
The 2026–27 plan identifies data governance, AI literacy, academic programs and workforce needs, teaching and assessment, and infrastructure and sustainability as continuing areas of work. Every workgroup is expected to make its connection to students explicit.

From task force to commission
The President’s AI Task Force began in 2023 and completed its charge in spring 2025. Its final report and eight recommendations provide the foundation for CAI’s work. The annual report maps those recommendations to the five workgroups.
