The Commission on Artificial Intelligence (CAI) advises Lane’s President on the evolving impacts of AI on the student experience and the institution.
Our role and scope
AI is changing how people learn, work, and access services. The commission provides a place to ask questions, examine evidence, and consider what those changes mean for Lane.
- Monitor developments in AI and assess their relevance to the college and its students.
- Develop advisory recommendations on AI adoption, use, and impact.
- Support campus dialogue, information sharing, and AI literacy.
- Connect work across instruction, student services, technology, human resources, and other college areas.
- Review the AI Task Force recommendations and emerging needs.
The commission serves in an advisory capacity. Decisions about policy, implementation, and operations follow Lane’s established governance and administrative processes.
Student success guides our work
Across all five workgroups, we ask how our recommendations will improve the student experience. That includes protecting student information, supporting fair assessment, strengthening AI literacy, improving access to services, and preparing students for changing workplaces.
Our discussions make room for different experiences and views about AI. Integrity, transparency, collaboration, sustainability, and equity help guide that work.
How we carry out the charge
Faculty, classified staff, management, and students bring different perspectives to the commission. Five workgroups examine issues in depth and develop recommendations for the full commission.
