Purpose

This policy aims to foster ethical and authentic learning by setting expectations for faculty to educate students of the intrinsic value of authentic learning; to communicate expectations to students in their course syllabus; and to provide resources to help students understand and adhere to course requirements. In alignment with college Values, we uphold the standards for responsibility in an academic community, and encourage a developmental approach to academic misconduct when appropriate. Students' perceptions and previous experience can inform their understanding of academic misconduct. Academic misconduct may be subject to academic penalties, which may result in a reduced grade, failure of the course, and suspension or dismissal from the College. It is imperative that all community members engage in academic integrity practices.

Narrative

Faculty will articulate expectations regarding academic integrity and academic dishonesty in course syllabi and will review these with students. Expectations may include proper citation and referencing practices; the use of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI); and the consequences of academic misconduct as stated in the college Code of Conduct. Individual course syllabi will include a link to the college Student Code of Conduct and provide types of dishonesty that the faculty member deems relevant to their discipline or course. In programs with discipline-specific policies based on accreditation or professional licensure, these should be shared in relevant course syllabi. Faculty will notify students about any alleged violation and explain relevant processes. This policy encourages instructors to contact the Dean of Student Engagement for further guidance regarding known or suspected violations.

This policy applies to all credit, non-credit programs/courses, non-credit skills development courses.
