This session details the planning structure, timeline, and the many ways faculty, staff, students, and community members can share their ideas and insights. We’ll also look at how this plan builds on work underway through Achieving the Dream’s Community Vibrancy Initiative and the Aspen Institute President’s Fellowship. In this session, Shane Turner and Grant Matthews walk through what we heard — the strengths worth protecting and the areas where we have the most room to grow, especially recognition and meaningful progress at work. Engagement isn't something leadership or HR does to the College; it's built in every team, every meeting, and every conversation. Come see what the data says about our climate, understand how your department's action plan fits in, and leave with concrete steps each of us can take to move the needle this year. | Outcome 1 — Participants can name the College's overall engagement standing and the two priority focus areas (recognition and progress), and identify at least one action they can personally take. This is one way that Lane Community College is responding to the employment needs of Lane County and helping to reduce the number of households below the Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed (ALICE) threshold. We will explore the critical shift from a "deficit-minded" perspective to an "equity-minded" one, and discuss how this shift is essential to our collective success. Participants will leave with a shared language and tangible strategies for contributing to Lane's strategic priorities in managed enrollment growth, fiscal stability, and improving our institutional climate, all through the lens of equity-minded practice. This is the opportunity to add your voice to the conversation and help build a more inclusive, successful and Beloved Community at Lane for everyone. | Outcome 1: Participants will be able to articulate the difference between a deficit-minded and an equity-minded approach to student success and explain why focusing on equity is central to Lane's strategic priorities. Join members of the Lane Student Government Association (SGA)—some returning to leadership and others bringing new perspectives—for an open and candid conversation about what it means to be a student at Lane. This panel will move beyond titles and positions to explore the experiences that shape student success: belonging, navigating college systems, balancing school with life, classroom experiences, access to resources, and the barriers students encounter along the way. Panelists will reflect on where Lane is getting it right, where students can feel stuck or disconnected, and what could make the college experience more accessible, supportive, and engaging. 2:15 PM - 5:00 PM (Management) | Capacity Cafe: Building Capacity to Advance Economic Vibrancy in Lane County Presenters: ATD Coach, TBD In a recent administration of Achieving the Dream’s Institutional Capacity Assessment, Lane Community College faculty, staff and administrators identified embracing upward mobility as the end goal of student success reform efforts as one of the college’s key organizational strengths. They also highly assessed the college’s collaboration with community-based organizations and employers to co-develop programs and services to support students. However, a parallel year-long examination of labor market outcomes in Lane County revealed that the college’s current programs and systems are not producing enough of the credentials that lead to social and economic mobility for people in the community who would most benefit from jobs that pay life sustaining wages. In this interactive session, we will explore opportunities to strengthen strategic partnerships, expand outreach efforts, build additional capacity to use data to understand the challenges and barriers that underserved populations experience, and implement strategies that increase faculty and staff understanding of the connections between their work and the college’s student success goals for advancing economic vibrancy in Lane County. | Building 19/220 & 226 (Zoom Room) Meeting ID: 972 6357 0405 |
