Purpose

The purpose of this procedure is to describe the professional teaching qualifications required for non-credit instructors, and the application and employment process to be used.

Narrative

Responsible discipline area college administrators will establish the professional teaching qualifications for Continuing Education classes based on class content and any applicable external or third party regulatory/oversight organization. Verification of professional teaching qualification materials will be completed prior to course scheduling and appointment of new instructor to teach any Continuing Education class.

Procedural Steps:

  1. Class professional teaching qualifications
    1. Responsible college administrators establish appropriate discipline qualifications to teach each Continuing Education class. Education and experience requirements or equivalencies for Continuing Education instructors are based on class content and any applicable external or third party regulatory/oversight organization.
  2. Instructor professional teaching qualification verification/subject expertise
    1. Potential Continuing Education instructors should provide documentation of professional teaching qualification/subject expertise as appropriate. Verification documentation may include, but is not limited to the following:
      1. Resume;
      2. Evidence of relevant education and experience;
      3. Evidence of relevant training;
      4. Evidence of required license or certification; and
      5. Demonstrated expertise for non-academic and/or non-workforce subjects.
    2. Internally interested instructors may reference current college manager, employees, or faculty records to document professional teaching qualifications/subject expertise.
  3. Application packet for Continuing Education instruction should include:
    1. Completed Lane Community College Application for Employment;
    2. Documentation of professional teaching qualification (see Step 2 for potential documentation sources)
    3. Completed course proposal/syllabus if proposing a new class; and
    4. Work-related references for new instructors.

The completed application package for approved instructors must be maintained in the department's central instructor file for six months after termination of employment.
