Responsible Executive Authority

Vice President of Information Technology

Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to ensure transparent oversight and appropriate distribution of Student Technology Fee funds.

Narrative

The Student Technology Fee was approved by the Lane Community College Board of Education on March 18, 2002 for the purpose of eliminating course fees associated with technology needs for instruction. The Board of Education has oversight and authority for the fund use, as well as increases if they are warranted.

The Responsible Executive Authority will establish and maintain a Student Technology Fee Allocation Committee consisting of equitable representation of the stakeholder groups (divisions, students, classified, faculty, and managers) to: have oversight over technology fees, allocate these fees transparently, and allocate fees with integrity. Guidelines and a procedure for the distribution of the funds will be written and published in COPPS by the Student Technology Fee Allocation Committee.

The committee will ensure allocations are used for their intended purpose using the following guidelines:

  • Adequately maintain existing student-used technology
  • Provide increased student access to existing technology
  • Establish a student technology reserve fund
  • Fund new technology
  • Fund student-employees at the college in career-building, technology-focused work experience.

The committee will be responsible for creating and maintaining procedures to address:

  • Fund availability
  • Purpose of funds used
  • Evaluation criteria utilized
  • Awarded budgetary amounts (Department/, Request, Amount) and Allocation history
  • Projected amounts for tech-fee dispersion
  • Fiscal Responsibility

Allocations, amounts and minutes of the Student Technology Fee Allocation Committee will be documented, follow college procedures for college records, published on the college’s website, and promoted publicly by the committee.
