To ensure the integrity of the learning environment and maintain compliance with the provisions of the United States Federal Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA) of 2008, Federal Financial Aid Requirements, and the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities Distance Education Policy.
Lane will maintain and regularly review a process to verify that students enrolled in all courses and programs are the same person whose achievements are evaluated and credentialed. To authenticate identities, LCC will use one or more of the following verification methods:
- A secure login with username and password
- New or emerging technologies and practices that are effective in verifying student identity
The College acknowledges that identity fraud is an evolving issue that requires vigilance and adaptability; LCC is committed to the ongoing implementation of best practices for identity verification. The current process for identity verification is described in the Student Identity Verification Procedure.
All methods of verifying student identity must protect the privacy of student information in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and any other applicable laws or regulations regarding the confidentiality of personally identifiable information.
There are no additional charges associated with identity verification. An account is assigned to an individual for exclusive use by that individual. Attempting to discover another user's password or attempts to gain unauthorized access to another person's files or email is prohibited. It is against College policy for a user to give someone the student password or allow others to use the student account. Users are responsible for any and all users of their account.
