Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to provide consistency among all the departments of Lane Community College in naming buildings, sites and common areas. Naming opportunities may be granted in recognition of distinction and/or in recognition of financial support.

Narrative

From time to time the College may want to honor the extraordinary, distinguished contributions of individuals or groups to humanity, to the United States, to Oregon, to Lane County or to the College. Additionally, a building, room, common area or program may be named in recognition of outstanding service and/or financial support. Names of facilities or areas should lend prestige to the college and to staff, students and community.  No naming will be approved or (once approved) sustained that will call into serious question the public respect of the College. Proposals must be vetted by the campus community and the College President and approved by the College Board of Education when they include naming of the buildings, substantial areas, or significant landscape features.

The Naming Buildings and Facilities procedure shall be followed for naming or denaming buildings, rooms, or spaces.
