Purpose

This policy presents guidelines on the use of wireless communication at Lane Community College. This policy covers all devices that connect wirelessly to Lane Community College networks (e. g. personal computers, cellular phones, tablets, etc.).

Narrative

Lane provides wireless internet access for students,employees, and guests of Lane Community College.

Wireless access points not managed by Information Technology (IT) are not permitted without specific approval from IT. Personal cellular access points are permitted for personal use, provided they do not directly connect to the Lane network, and do not represent themselves as part of Lane's infrastructure.

Enforcement: Any employee found to have violated this policy may be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

Definitions

Wireless access point: A device that allows network-capable devices to connect to college managed infrastructure.

Personal cellular access point: A cell phone or mobile device that allows other devices to connect to the internet through its cellular service provider.
