Teaching Interests

I teach writing courses through the English department's writing program and Cinema Studies through Media Arts. My areas of interest include: students' experiences with academic literacies; the role of reading skills in the writing curriculum; horror film; U.S. women directors; social realist cinemas around the globe.

The most interesting horror films, new or not, that I've watched recently were Ready or Not (Bettinili-Olpin and Gillett 2019) and The Last Will and Testament of Rosalind Leigh (Gudiño 2012). I can't wait to see the Jordan Peele produced Candyman (DaCosta 2020) in September 2020!

I am still in love with these horror shorts:

. . . and the musical horror/comedy short We Together (Kaplan 2016).

I think Chloe Zhao's The Rider was the film that impressed me most in 2018. In 2019, the films were Portrait of a Lady on Fire (Sciamma), The Nightingale (Kent), and Parasite (Bong Joon Ho).
